The exhibit will have western landscapes, figurative paintings of western and Native American people, and images conveying the cultures of the West.
A retired architect with more than 40 years of experience in the field, Jack Harkins creates paintings that are inspired by historic photos of Native Americans and their environs, geologic formations of the southwest, indigenous structures, animals, and landscapes.
Harkins' work is mostly impressionistic, but not to the extreme. His paintings include familiar and recognizable subjects but are loose enough to leave the viewer room for interpretation. Technique, style, and color are used to translate what the eye sees into something similar, but hopefully better than the original image.
