“There is a constant dialogue between the past and present, and it’s as apparent as ever. With my collage work, I want people to think about the ways we have changed or stayed the same and show that there is value in contemplating the past.
The imagery of mid-century magazines gives me a snapshot of a distinct era, in which the context of the present comes across as brutally honest at times, and humorously out of touch at others. What results is work that is both nostalgic and contemporary, drawing meaning both from the past and its new context. I use subject matter that are evocative enough to let the viewer draw their own conclusions, but still keep some mystery to themselves.
This selection of work creates unique comparisons to the present through exploration of different visual themes and composition in each piece. They share a distinct textural quality inherited from the magazine printing process, as well as a uniform use of stark color choices throughout.”
