The Center for Contemporary Arts is delighted to announce Oaxacan Gold, an art exhibit curated by the esteemed National Geographic contributing photographer, Greg Davis. Oaxacan Gold will highlight the beauty and uniqueness of Oaxacan culture through his ethereal photography and a stellar collection of Oaxacan folk art. Thanks to our supporters, you can see the exhibit for free fromJuly 26th through September 14th. The grand closing evening celebration on Sept. 14th 6-9pm is a ticketed multimedia art and cultural experience featuring the photography of Greg Davis, a dance performance, and the Folk Art of Grand Master Folk Artists; Jacobo and Maria Angeles (alebrijes), Carlomagno Pedro Martinez (black clay), Alejandro Vera (masks), Jose and Teresita Garcia Antonio (ceramics), Magdalena Pedro Martínez (black clay), and the 90 year old loom from the Mendoza Family (textiles).In addition to the above, ticketed night participants will also experience “The Taste of Oaxaca'' a culinary art experience complimented by “The Spirit of Oaxaca” mescal tastings.

The series features thirty-five limited edition framed photographs accompanied by five mediums of folk art by Master Oaxacan folk artists. “Many came to the new world and Oaxaca looking for gold,” Davis explains. “but they found something way more valuable... the people, it’s culture and it’s traditions.” The exhibit, “Oaxacan Gold” will open at the Center for Contemporary Arts on July 26th.
