About the Center for Contemporary Arts
Founded in 1989 with the support of the Abilene Cultural Affairs Council, the Center for Contemporary Arts aims to encourage, empower, and inspire artists, children, and the community through the arts. Originating from The Artists League of Texas, the Center was created by Bill Wright and Lynn Barnett to provide a space for artists to work and exhibit.
Significant expansion occurred when pop artist Clint Hamilton returned to Abilene, bringing renewed energy. The Center's historic downtown building, renovated in 1993 and 2002, now features classrooms, studios, galleries, and an online art research library in collaboration with the Abilene Public Library. The Center continues to promote creativity and cultural engagement through exhibitions, educational programs, and community events.
