Dirty Drawers Annual Exhibit
More than 30 years of weekly meetings, the Dirty Drawers are still at it—producing vibrant, detailed images of those who model for them. The group meets every Monday evening from 7-9 p.m. to create figure drawings and portraits and to practice their craft. A reception for this exhibit will be held on July 17th at 6:30pm.

DIRTY DRAW-ERS

Founding members were the late Mary Hogsett, Ruth Jackson, and Esmé Glenn. They met during the day and engaged housewives to pose for them. Later they moved to the Abilene Fine Arts Museum and began to meet at night.

For a short time they met at a south side recreation center before settling at the Center for Contemporary Arts in its first location above Roberts' photographic studio. Clint Hamilton and Jane Breed joined them there.

The group meets in Gallery 3 in the Center, on Monday nights from 7 until 9 p.m.

Since Esmé opens and closes the Center, members are asked to stay the entire three hours so that she does not interrupt her own drawing session with minding the door. Each person contributes $2 each night to pay the model who receives $15 or a bit more.
