Photography Exhibit- The Honey Pot: China in Black and White, Angie Cook

"Because I find photography most compelling when it visually captures and retells an experience, in this exhibit, I narrate my journey of international adoption in these black-and-white photographs, a medium that forces the viewer to focus on the image's story through its directness: the contrast of the blackest blacks against the whitest whites, the rhythm of the objects captured, and the textures of the surfaces in the image. There is a deceptive straightforwardness to documentary photography if it succeeds in capturing an experience: it seems effortless, as if the photographer did nothing more than point and click. In The Honey Pot: China in Black and White, my aim is to visually narrate; as if it were an effortless feat?the sweetness of the complex international adoption journey, of what it was like for my family and me to be dipped in that proverbial Chinese honey pot." -Angie Cook
